Football: In the match between Cope Cope and St Arnaud, Cope Cope was leading by 25 points when the last quarter started and St Arnaud kicked 6 goals bringing their final score up to 11-9 but Cope Cope kicked 2 goals and won with a score of 12-4.
Goals kicked for St Arnaud by Marchment 4, Easton 3, Millgate, Craig, Cecini and Pennington one each. Goals kicked for Cope Cope by O’Donohue, Cousins and Trollope 2 each and Sully and Michael 3 each.Watchem 10-7 defeated Birchip 6-7 and Donald 9-17 defeated Litchfield-Carron 11-2.On the premiership list Donald has 12, Litchfield –Carron and Watchem both have 8, Birchip and Cope Cope both have 4 and St Arnaud is yet to score.
Umpires Wanted: The Kara Kara Football Association advertise for umpires at a fee of £3 per match – apply J Hedger care of Murrells and McNicol.
Window Breaks: At 3 o’clock on Saturday morning a large plate glass window in Mr Travaglia café crashed onto the footpath. It is considered the cold weather was responsible for the crash.
Hospital Report for May: There were 39 patients admitted, 34 remaining and three deaths.
Sister Hopkins will be acting matron while Matron Wall is on leave, Nurses Florence McCleary and Helena Raynes have passed their final exams and new probationers Miss McIntyre and Miss Freeman have commenced duty. Mr George Osborne celebrated his 45th year as secretary of the hospital having started on 7th June 1881. The St Arnaud Band entertained in the hospital grounds on Sunday afternoon.
Sales: Mr G Stevens who is giving up contracting wants to sell three tip drays with horses and harness. W R & R J Hodgson who are leaving St Arnaud have sold their newly-erected E B house of 4 rooms with wash-house, fowl house and two tanks on 1¼ acre in Grey st, to Mr Foster for £130.Mrs M A Parry sold by auction the lease for 3 years of 320 acres at Coonooer West joining Murray Bros and Postlethwaite Bros to Mr A C Phillips for 17/- acre
Welcome Home: Emu residents welcomed home Miss Jones, sister of Mr J F Jones and presented her with a xylonite brush, comb and mirror on a tray. She has been on a two-year holiday visiting relatives in Wales and England.
Dance Palais: The dances held weekly in the Fire Brigade Hall are still proving popular with over fifty couples attending most weeks. This week Miss Collins won a trophy in the novelty lucky dip dance.
Croquet Club: The Croquet Club held a musical evening and dance with the dance music played by Mr & Mrs C W Perry and Mr J Tobin. The season’s trophies were presented to Mrs Stan Bray – ‘A’ Division and Mrs T Jackson – ‘B’ Division.
