CHANTELLE Duncan couldn’t be more thankful for the opportunities she has access to closer to home through McCallum Disability Services.
So much so, she’s been coming back for more than 10 years.
“I used to have to travel to get work, but it’s great now I don’t have to,” she said.
Staff at the St Arnaud facility have said in her time there, Ms Duncan has achieved many personal milestones that reflect her determination, resilience and growing independence.
With support Chantelle has successfully maintained employment, is building valuable work skills, confidence and has established routines.
“I’m able to help out by washing cars, doing people’s washing and ironing and doing deliveries around St Arnaud,” she said. “But we also get to take part in fun activities like taking part in the Tri-State Games, cooking activities and more. I never feel left out.”
St Arnaud customer outcomes general manager Leigh Cooksleysaid participants were lucky to be in a community like St Arnaud.
“You don’t feel the stigma there can be around people with disabilities,” he said.
“We want to keep providing great services in a town that is exceptionally welcoming.”
