WITH the top three sides of the Inter-Hotels Pool Competition each engaged in combat with a not-so-fortunate resident of the lower regions of the ladder, the outcome was to be eminently predictable that included yet another whitewashing at the end of round 12.

This was to occur at the bastion on the hill where the Sporting Club team hosted the RSL platoon but the Diggers soon proved to be in no mood for niceties.

Sam and Kyle Postlethwaite produced virtuoso performances against Dayle Pitt and Jess Cook while Mitch Phillips outgunned Ruby Smith.

The elegant Dave Russ polished off Mitch Glidden unmercifully in the two rounds of singles.

At the conclusion of these matches and still yet to disturb the scorers, the collapsing Clubbers pitched their hopes of redemption on the doubles pairings of Ruby and Mitch and Dayle and Jess against Sam and Mitch and Kyle and Dave.

But the devastating Diggers were to prove invincible in their quest for successive ten-zip victories, their way home guided not by the lights of the Lord Nelson Park towers, but the coruscate quoits of the crushed Clubbers.

They now have their sights set on achieving a back-to-back three-peat of this achievement when they host the Farmers’ Arms Two side in the next round

But Alayne Cunningham and her Amazons have vowed to spoil the party, at least sufficiently to prevent providing my dog with yet another horrifying spectacle.

They hosted the Country Club Two team, who are currently premiership favourites and also on a quest for a three-peat, that being to retain the coveted premiership shield.

At the bottom of the second round, it appeared the possibility that yet another major lunar apparition would appear over the Rue Rois was immanent after Harley Durward, Will Jackson and Jake Male eliminated Luke Pole, Jack Hodges and Bianca Cannon.

Jack had already suffered the ignominy of a derriere de-dacking but the determined darling Alayne was to invoke an enthusiastic expiration of relief from her team and supporters when she levelled her match with Grant Doyle.

She then went on to have the champagne corks popping when she eliminated him in the final round of singles.

Luke and Bianca then added some respectability to the scoreboard when they overcame Harley and Luke Jackson in the first of the doubles. But Alayne and Jack were to fail against Will and Jake to hand the rollicking Rollers and Floggers the points by eight games to three.

Closest result of the night was to occur out amongst the fairways, monotremes and marsupials at the Country Club as the boys from the Pub in the Scrub braved the potholes and grey grasshoppers to confront their number One side on their home dunghill.

They began well, coasting to a three frames to one lead after the first round as Shaun McNaulty, rookie Drew Gray and Peter Anderson raced to the front against Dan Harkin, Neil Robinson and Des Moulday.

Ben Pell had been left languishing by Troy Shields but they had run their race in the singles encounters as, one by one the wheels fell off their sulkies to put the match beyond their reach.

Now leading by six games to three, the content Club One members relaxed and their cuesmanship became as convincing as a politician’s promises as Troy and Mouse allowed Shaun and Drew to head them at the post.

Dan and dreaming Des, his mind obsessed with the upcoming clash between his beloved Magpies and the Kangaroos, were unable to kick straight against Ben and pizza Pete.

Their eight games to five win has effectively eliminated the Logan from any future challenge for a place in the top four.
