Big crowd at golf championships
TWENTY six players competed in the second round of the Charlton Men’s golf championships on Sunday.

In A Grade, Matt McGurk , with rounds of 82 88 has a six shot buffer going into the third and final round to be played next Sunday.
Clinton Olive, 87 89, Wayne Southwell 95 85 and Anthony Hargreaves 90 92 fill in the next placings.
In B Grade, Mark Hamley 91 85 has a narrow 1 shot advantage over Ric Walklate 88 89, closely followed by John Tormey 88 90 and Jamey Soulsby 93 90.
In C Grade a three way contest is unfolding. Peter Sexton 108 91, Ian Jenkins 103 96 and Phil Stafford are log jammed together. Jeff Cox in striking distance on 105 96.

Division 1: Mark Hamley 71 nett. Runner up, Rick Walklate 72 net.
Division 2: Peter Sexton 68 net. Runner up, Jeff Cox 71 nett
Nearest the pins: 2nd Wayne Southwell. 7th Brendan Byrne, 14th Jacko Zagame.
THURSDAY was bitterly cold and wet so the usual suspects for the St Arnaud old farts 9 holes showed great commonsense and did not play.
Saturday was a stableford round as a warm up for the second round of the championships on Sunday.
Lindsay Baldock played the best to win with 35 points from Bill Rodger on 32.Nearest the pins were John Goode on the 6th and Robert Harvey on the 18th.
Sunday saw 24 players contest the second round of the championships.
The winner in A grade and the St Arnaud Physio best score of the day was Jake Male with an impressive round of 76/6/70.
Just shows what a win in the footy and long late night can do for your golf.
Runner-up was secretary Leigh Hines with 86/13/73 one ahead of Bill Rodger on 79/5/74.
B grade winner was one of younger members Sam Postlethwaite with a very respectable 87/16/71, one shot ahead of the little bit older John Goode on 89/17/72 and one of our junior senior players Lindsay Baldock with 89/15/74.
Nearest the pins were David Lanyon on the 6th,Tubby Drendel on the 8th,Scott Wright on the 10th and John Goode on the Weirs IGA sponsored 18th.
One match was played in the singles knockout with the wily Peter Martin overcoming Rob Batters 3/2.
With one round of the championships to go next Sunday the runaway leader in A grade is Craig Burn 6 shots ahead of Jake Male with Scott Wright and Bill Rodger a further two shots back.
It will take a minor disaster from Craig and massive Saturday night from Jake to alter the outcome for the club champion.
In B grade Lindsay Baldock holds a 3 shot lead over Sam Postlethwaite and 9 shots over John Goode.
The final round looks like a battle between the youth of Sam and the experience of Lindsay.
The real contest was in C grade with Charlie Ferguson one shot ahead of Trevor McDonald and Trevor Stewart one shot behind him.
The winner will come from the one who holds his nerve the best.
The Duff cup is a much sort after trophy being for the best net score over the championships.
Young gun Jake Male and the Wily Lindsay Baldock share the lead on 141 with Sam Postlethwaite close on 143.
EVEN though the weather was fine, the scrapes well prepared and mowing done only six ladies turned out to play a stableford event last Wednesday.
Winner was Jenny Lanyon with 30 pts from runner - up Marilyn Knights.
Nearest the pins were Jenny on the 6th and 10th and Bernice Fithall 8th.
