Calling all market makers: event is back

MARKET Square will soon be filled with the sounds of happy customers and the smell of everyone’s favourite jam donuts on a regular basis.
The team that has now become St Arnaud Country Market Inc. has taken over the reins for the town’s monthly market and is excited to see movement back in the town again.
After years in hibernation, the St Arnaud monthly made its comeback in 2024, but it struggled slightly to keep up with demand of stallholders.
“Uncle Bobs did such a great job of it all before, but they needed more room to grow,” group president Nikaela Perry said.
“The La Cochon Rose Hotel was a beautiful backdrop, but the space was limited to such a small amount of stalls.
“And that’s exactly what we want to happen here, we want to see the event grow and change into something big.”
The team had a small trial run at the St Arnaud Christmas Procession.
“We had such a fantastic turn out,” Mrs Perry said.
“We were blown away by the support for each small business at the stalls.
“It showed us there was definitely a need for something like this on a regular basis.”
The new market will fall on the second Saturday of each month and will take place in Market Square from 10am until 2pm.
The first event will fall on Valentine’s Day (February 14).
“It will be a good chance for people to buy their significant others a gift if they’re a little bit behind,” vice president Lauren Sherson said.
“We’re very much looking forward to our first event.”
Mrs Perry said this market was a chance for the community to come together to support those who want to get creative and sell their wares.
“I know there are a lot of people who have small businesses that can’t get into a store front, whether that’s because they’re not able to or they’re not ready to be,” she said.
“A market like this is a good chance to take that leap of faith and see how successful they really can be in the right environment. We’re excited to see these small businesses grow.”
There is also an opportunity for organisations and groups to fundraise.
“We will have people like the Lions Club putting on a barbeque and we’re encouraging schools and other groups to sign up to do the same,” Mrs Sherson said.
The group is also looking for volunteers to help on the day.
