Conditions contrast fallen soldier’s experience at Stuart Mill
Surrounded with the colors of reds and oranges of the autumn leaves and a day of bright sunshine, the community of Stuart Mill come together to honor the soldiers that made this day possible.
ANZAC Day at Stuart Mill was held on a beautiful autumn day, which would’ve been a huge contrast to the conditions the soldiers would have been experiencing 112 years ago.
Surrounded with the colors of reds and oranges of the autumn leaves and a day of bright sunshine, the community of Stuart Mill come together to honor the soldiers that made this day possible.
The Stuart Mill CWA President Helena Greer and Secretary, Sharon Douglas led the crowd of 45 in the Ode and the National anthem followed by the last post and a minute silence.
The honor of raising the flag, was given to recently retired Senior Constable Grant Healey from Avoca.
Grant was the 352nd recipient of the Victoria Police Bravery award in 2019 after attempting to save the life of an elderly man in a house fire in Elmhurst.
After the local donkey had given the children a ride, the Stuart Mill CWA cooked a sausage sizzle for lunch, with meat and bread being kindly donated by a local family.
