Country shines in showers
In what had been billed as a season-defining encounter for the two sides, fortunes were fluctuating at the break.

ST ARNAUD Country has wedged its way clear of top four challengers with a three-shot victory over St Arnaud in Saturday’s North Central bowls division one clash.
In what had been billed as a season-defining encounter for the two sides, fortunes were fluctuating at the break.
A mid-afternoon shower changed that with Country adapting better to damper conditions that slowed the green a couple of seconds from its starting speed of about 15 seconds.
Phil McRae, Kerryn Dyke and Diane Ostarcevic have claimed the St Arnaud Bowling Club Triples Championship for the 2025–26 season after a strong finish to the competition.
The eventual champions were pushed early, scraping through their opening match by just one shot, but steadily built momentum as the championship progressed.
They secured their place in the final with a convincing win over Tony Marland, John Prendergast and Craig Cheesman.
Their opponents in the decider, Col Marchment, Tom Amos and Sandra McIntyre, earned their spot in the final after defeating Steve Zsigmond, Brian Eccles and Marg McRae.
The final, played last Thursday evening in warm conditions, was evenly poised early, with the scores locked at five shots apiece after four ends. McRae, Dyke and Ostarcevic then took firm control, winning seven consecutive ends to open up a commanding 17–5 lead.
Bowling with great consistency across the rink, they closed out the match to record a 19–10 victory and secure the title.
The win marked Phil McRae’s eighth club triples championship, a second triples title for Kerryn Dyke, and a first triples championship for Diane Ostarcevic.
