POLICE: Man questioned on burglaries
Police say the man’s driver’s licence was disqualified and enquiries revealed the vehicle had allegedly been stolen during a recent burglary in the Donald area.
POLICE patrolling the St Arnaud area on May 14 responded to a report of a vehicle behaving suspiciously on Yawong Road, Slaty Creek.
A short time later, officers stopped a 38-year-old St Arnaud man riding a quad bike without registration plates.
Police say the man’s driver’s licence was disqualified and enquiries revealed the vehicle had allegedly been stolen during a recent burglary in the Donald area.
It is also alleged the man was on bail at the time for pending matters relating to theft, traffic and drug offences.
He was arrested at his home on Sunday an was taken to the station, where he was interviewed in relation to the alleged offending. He faced court on Monday.
Investigations into recent burglaries and thefts around St Arnaud remain ongoing, and further charges are expected.
Unlicensed Rider Intercepted
Police were patrolling along Wills Street in St Arnaud on May 2 when they saw a motorbike travelling towards them.
Officers quickly identified the rider as a 17-year-old St Arnaud male. Further checks revealed the rider was unlicensed, the motorbike was unregistered, and he was not wearing an approved helmet or appropriate safety gear.
The motorbike was immediately impounded for 30 days, and the rider will be summoned to appear at the St Arnaud Magistrates’ Court to answer multiple traffic-related offences.
Police remind all motorists that all vehicles in Victoria must be registered and roadworthy to be driven on public roads.
Police will not tolerate unlicensed or unsafe driving behaviour that puts our community at risk.

Driver says no to testing
POLICE found a 29-year-old Stawell woman driving on Wills Street, near Montague Street in St Arnaud.
The driver was stopped and required to provide a preliminary oral fluid test, which she refused to undertake.
The driver will appear at the St Arnaud Magistrates’ Court in relation to this offence.
Police remind all motorists that refusing to comply with drug and alcohol testing carries serious penalties.
We Can’t Go, if we Don’t Know
Police have been made aware, via social media, of vandalism occurring on both public and private property in St Arnaud.
It is concerning that most, if not all, of these incidents have not been formally reported to police.
Police remind the community that posting about criminal activity on social media or community pages does not constitute an official police report.
All instances of graffiti or similar located where an offender is not present, should be reported online or via Police Assistance Line Phone 131444. The online option allows the reporting person to upload photographs of the graffiti.
Police encourage anyone who observes suspicious behaviour or witnesses an offence to report it immediately via 000 so police can respond promptly.
