Music maker visits Probus
Peter and Marion Watts were also welcomed to the club.
AT THE May Charlton Probus meeting, members had the pleasure of hearing about the life and music of Geoff Stokes.
Born in Wales in 1952, he came from a very musical background, his mother and maternal grandfather both pianists and church organists and his paternal grandmother also a pianist.
Geoff had his first piano lesson at age seven and continued with lessons until he was 18 years old.
Geoff thinks the biggest influence on his musical career was cousin, Brian Jones, founder of the Rolling Stones.
In 1974, having worked for the government for four years, Geoff decided to turn to music as a profession andjoined the James Hogg Rock Band. They continually toured the U K playing clubs and concert halls plus some popular London Clubs.
In 1976 Geoff emigrated to Australia where for some time the music scene was fairly slow for him.
In 1980 he was approached to join a band called “Damage” and things went forward from that point.
He has had a very successful career playing with many different bands throughout many states of Australia.
