IN THE 14 and Under B netball, Charlton created plenty of turnover ball through the strong defensive work of Marlly and Charlotte, but found it difficult to transition the ball out of defence during the opening quarter against Sea Lake Nandaly.

At the attacking end, newcomer Megg provided a reliable option through the centre, while Lilymae and Lila combined well in the goal circle to help the Navies score two goals in the first term.

Several positional changes in the second quarter saw Charlton move the ball much more effectively through the court, with Yazmin providing excellent drive through the midcourt.

Despite creating numerous scoring opportunities, the Navies were unable to add to their tally.

After a positional swap going into the third, proved effective, with Lila and Megg combining strongly through the midcourt to deliver the ball to goalers Lilymae and Molly.

Their teamwork resulted in Charlton adding three more goals for the term.

The Navies retained the same combination for the final quarter, but found scoring at that end of the court a challenge despite continuing to work hard.

SLNT ran out convincing winners.

CHARLTON’S 14 and Under A side made a reasonable start, with Rosie working tirelessly through the attacking third to create opportunities in the goal circle. Changes were made heading into the second quarter in an attempt to capitalise on Rosie’s large workload, but strong circle defensive pressure from the Tigers limited the Navies’ scoring chances.

At the other end of the court, Isabella began to settle into the unfamiliar role of goal keeper and, alongside fellow defender Marley, produced a determined performance to prevent the Tigers from taking complete control of the match.

With the Navies lacking their regular enthusiasm, further positional changes in the third quarter saw Sophie and Isabella combine well in defence, keeping Charlton within reach.

Yazmin also adapted well to the intensity of the higher grade, providing strong leads through the midcourt, but the Navies were unable to convert their opportunities.

A major reshuffle for the final term sparked Charlton into action.

Rosie repeatedly intercepted the ball with strong attack on the ball, while Isabella and Maddie provided excellent drive through the midcourt. Up forward, Sophie was a surprise packet, proving difficult for the Tigers’ defence to contain.

THE Under 17A Charlton girls played a strong game and worked well together as a team.

They took on feedback throughout the game and showed the improvements they’ve been working on at training.

The defence was outstanding again, creating plenty of turnovers, while the attacking end finished well and made the most of those opportunities.

Unfortunately, a slow final quarter let us down, but the girls kept working hard, showed great second efforts, and continued to challenge the opposition until the end.

Some new combinations again this week in the defensive end with Taylah Boyle stepping into GK with great hands over pressure, backed up by Tahlijia Sheahan who continues to build each week and settling into the GD position.

Jac Leslie showed her versatility this week also coming into GK proving she can play either end, coming away with some great tips and a quality intercept.

The attackers battled out the game yet again with Tahli Roberts and Emily Lanyon working well to put together their highest score for the season.

CHARLTON’S B Grade faced a tough challenge against a strong Sea Lake outfit, going down after a slow start that put them on the back foot early.

Despite the difficult opening, the girls never stopped working and fought hard throughout the game. Defensively, Holly Thompson and Maggie Riley were tireless, applying strong pressure and creating several turnover opportunities.

Through the mid-court, Lily Campbell provided great drive and worked hard to transition the ball into attack.

In attack, Nat Dawson offered valuable direction, rotating between Wing Attack and Goal Shooter to provide composure and options.

Sarah Blair worked tirelessly to create opportunities for both Nat and Chloe, helping the team make the most of their chances.

Sea Lake’s disciplined defence made every pass and scoring opportunity difficult, keeping the pressure on throughout the game.

The team will take the lessons from this game and look to bounce back next week.

IT WAS a tough afternoon for Charlton’s A Grade as they came up against a strong Sea Lake side, unable to build on last week’s momentum. Sea Lake’s relentless defensive pressure made it difficult for Charlton to find front position and settle into their attacking rhythm.

In attack, Chloe Walsh was regularly double teamed under the post, while Yasmine Thompson worked hard to present and create options.

Through the mid-court, Claudia Lee provided strong drive from Wing Attack, linking well early with Ash Bowen, who battled against taller opponents.

Lacey Smith also found it challenging against Sea Lake’s pressure, while U17 Stella Nicolson added fresh energy in the third quarter.

Defensively, Charlton continued to compete strongly.

Claire Smith and Tessa Johnson combined well, applying pressure and creating intercept and rebound opportunities, forcing Sea Lake to work for every goal. It was a frustrating day where little went Charlton’s way.

While the result was disappointing, the group knows they are capable of more.

The focus now is on building consistency across four quarters and matching last week’s effort every time they take the court.
