A NEW group of leaders have been voted in for this year of the Wycheproof Probus Club.

At the group’s annual general meeting in early March, many important decisions were made - from the set day and time for monthly meetings ongoing to outings throughout the year.

David Pollard served as a neutral person and chaired the election of the committee.

Results of the election were: Will Russ as president, Lyn Cossar as vice-president, Leanne Rose as secretary, Deb Crockett as assistant secretary, Mary-Anne Duke as treasurer, Russell Bedggood as caring, Jenny Mead as hospitality, Wendy Turnbull as membership, Markin Dule as publicity, Lyn Grylls as history, Deb Crockett in charge of the newsletter, Rob Grylls for speakers and the committee as a whole for outings.

After a morning tea break the AGM was followed by the March monthly meeting in which jokes were shared by the President to amusement of all in attendance.

Then birthday wishes were given in song.

In general business, one member highlighted a warning regarding seat belts.

“It seems there had been an incident noted on television where a person picked up a hitchhiker who didn’t put on his seat belt,” publicity officer Martin Duke said.

“This was recorded on several monitoring cameras along the road, and the driver was heavily fined in due course.

“There being no recourse to the hitchhiker, who had gone on his merry way some time earlier.

“The same concern is also likely with dogs in cars, who also need to be restrained.

“The meeting also considered if it could help the Wycheproof Uniting Church in seeking funding for a defibrillator, as one of our previous speakers, from Ambulance Vic had encouraged us to consider defibrillator availability 24 hours a day in this part of Wycheproof.”

Meeting dates were agreed to continue as 10 am second Thursday of the month, mostly at the Wycheproof Uniting Church Hall and the Committee will meet on the first Thursday of the month.

Club outings are planned for May, July, September and October/November.
