No Charlton CFA shed questions answered in Government's response
They said the new Charlton CFA station is being delivered by the Victorian Infrastructure Delivery Authority to ensure the strategic, continued service delivery of all CFA projects across the state.
THERE are still no answers on when Charlton CFA will see the start of construction on its new station.
Despite the NCN Herald questioning the CFA on the matter last week and it then being handballed straight to the Permier’s office, the response hasn’t cleared anything up.
“We’re backing the hardworking firefighters of Charlton with a modern, fit-for-purpose station with planning works now underway,” A State Government spokesperson said.
They said the new Charlton CFA station is being delivered by the Victorian Infrastructure Delivery Authority to ensure the strategic, continued service delivery of all CFA projects across the state.
Charlton CFA’s issue began when it received a new tanker back in 2021, but it wouldn’t fit in the current, 95-year-old station.
The brigade began asking for a new station soon after as the new truck had to be stored out the back of Walsh Motors.
Land was purchased by the CFA ready for the new station in 2022.
Frustrations boiled over last September when captain Craig Walsh told the NCN Herald he had made multiple attempts to get a response from Emergency Services minister Vicki Ward.
The State Government announced Charlton would be included in funding from this year’s Budget back in May, but this was just one step in the seemingly long road to a new station.
Mr Walsh said they wouldn’t stop until the build began.
“Look it is exciting, we’re appreciative, but it is just one hurdle,” he said.
“We shouldn’t be used to waiting, but because we are, it makes us question how long it will actually be until we can see the shed in front of us.
“We won’t relax until that build starts.”
Mr Walsh said plans he had seen for the $5 million build would be similar to that of the Irymple CFA station, which includes meeting rooms, changing facilities for both men and women and more.
