A MAN has been arrested after guns and ammunition were found at his St Arnaud property on Saturday.

The warrant was executed at the Wills Street address about 5:30pm and officers seized a number of items including a homemade firearm and various cartridges of ammunition.

A 28-year-old St Arnaud man was arrested at the scene, charged with alleged firearm and other offences and remanded in custody to appear at court at a later date.

Northern Grampians Crime Investigation Unit (CIU) and St Arnaud police executed multiple search warrants at properties in St Arnaud in response to an alleged burglary that was reported earlier on December 9.

Stolen items were recovered, and a 38-year-old St Arnaud man was charged and bailed to appear at the St Arnaud Magistrates Court next month.

Two vehicle impounds

ST ARNAUD police have impounded two vehicles in as many days as officers increase patrols across the district in the lead-up to Christmas.

Police were patrolling in the St Arnaud East area when they stopped a 34-year-old Inglewood man on McNally Road at around 5.50pm on December 7.

Police allege the driver was unlicensed and subsequently returned a positive roadside drug test for methylamphetamine.

Officers also found the man had several outstanding matters requiring police attention.

His vehicle was impounded for 30 days at a cost of $2700, and he was taken to the St Arnaud Police Station for interview.

He will appear before a magistrate in relation to this incident and multiple other matters at a later date.

The following morning at around 11.20am police saw a man riding a motorcycle on Navarre Road, St Arnaud. The 54-year-old Paradise man was stopped shortly afterwards on the St Arnaud-Ararat Road.

Police allege the rider had not held a valid licence for more than a year, after it had been cancelled by a court.

His motorcycle was impounded for 30 days at a cost of $2,700, and he was conveyed to the St Arnaud Police Station for interview. He will be summonsed to appear before a magistrate at a later date.

Batteries stolen

TWENTY old car batteries were taken from the St Arnaud Transfer Station on Old Wedderburn Road between 1 November and 28 November 2025.

Any unusual sightings of quantities of old car batteries should be reported to police or Crime Stoppers.
