Queen Mary Walklate turns 100
Members of the Charlton and surrounding communities wished Mary a very happy birthday.
ALMOST everyone in the Charlton community has been lucky enough to know Mary Walklate.
Whether it’s on the art scene, at a big town event or through her beloved late husband Dr Brian Walklate, everyone has a fond memory.
That’s why Mary celebrating a significant milestone like turning 100, as she is today, is something the whole community wanted to be a part of.
This wasn’t a day we could just let be like any other - it’s a day we need to cherish, as we do the woman herself.
Because Mary has touched so many and had a hand in shaping the town into what it is today. And because of that, there are many who wanted to send their love to Mary on her special day.
“Charlton Arts extends its warmest congratulations to Mary Walklate. Mary has been a great supporter of the arts in Charlton and we thank her sincerely for her encouragement, enthusiasm and contribution to our community,” Carolyn Olive of Charlton Arts said.
“East Wimmera Health Service is delighted to extend our warmest congratulations to Mary on the extraordinary occasion of their 100th birthday. Reaching a century is a truly remarkable milestone and we are honoured to share this celebration,” EWHS acting CEO Courtney Yates said.
“Turning 100 is a great effort and I suggest she hangs around for a few more years yet. From us at the Buloke Shire, happy birthday Mary and congratulations on such a rich life,” Buloke Shire mayor Graeme Milne said.
“Every birthday is a privilege, and to celebrate a century of life is truly extraordinary. Wishing you a very happy birthday, and every blessing as you celebrate this remarkable milestone with family, friends and all who hold you dear,” Mallee MP Jade Benham said.
Birthday wishes also came from the Charlton kindergarten, an organisation close to Mary’s heart.
