HIGH SPIRITS translated into strong on-court performances as the St Arnaud and Kara Kara in Saturday’s round of North Central tennis.

The teams applied early and sustained pressure, claiming both men’s doubles sections, one ladies’ doubles section and both mixed doubles sections across the afternoon.

The Kara Kara side recorded a solid 113-92 games victory over Birchip, collecting an 8-2 points result, while St Arnaud was ruthless against Wirrim, posting a commanding 132-54 games win to secure maximum points, 10-0, and avenge their earlier season defeat.

Multiple three-set winners underlined the depth of talent on display.

Kara Kara’s standout performers included Luke Jackson, Ben Greenaway, Jackson Needs and Mitch Bourke.

For St Arnaud, the honours went to mother-and-daughter combination Andrea Johns and Sheridan Goode, Bailey Durward, and brothers Jake and Sam Male.

The resounding St Arnaud victory propelled the club into top position on the North Central Lawn Tennis Association ladder on percentage after round 10, level on points with Kara Kara.

The standings now read: St Arnaud 66, Kara Kara 66, Charlton 55, Nullawil 54, Birchip 46, Richardson 38, Avon 37, Wirrim 22 and Wycheproof 6.

The final round before the Christmas break, will be played on Saturday, with St Arnaud hosting Charlton and Kara Kara meeting fourth-placed Nullawil in what shapes as a strong finish to the first half of the season.

The opening half of the competition will conclude with a post-match family barbecue and games evening at the clubhouse, with all members and supporters invited to attend.
