Kooreh State School Picnic: Winners of some of the races -

Sales: The Estate of Alfred Giles [dec] sold 15 properties by auction, some were - 93 acres at Darkbonee to W G Hall at £10 acre,
80 acres at Tottington to W Greenaway at £9 acre,
54 acres at Carapooee West to W G Hall at £5 acre, 76 acres and,
28 acres both at Darkbonnee to Alex Arbuckle at £7 and £11-7-0.
All the above properties are leased for two years to Tom Ellen of Wallaloo East. 299 acres at Carapooee West and leased for two years to C A Dale of Rostron, sold to John Arbuckle at £5-17-6 acre.
170 acres at Boola Buloke and leased for four years to C A Dale, sold to J Austerberry at £5-10-0 acre.
65 acres at Gowar and leased for four years to Walter Pole, sold to W Pole at £6-15-0 acre,
At St Arnaud one rood, 39 perches in Millett St, joins railway line, sold to British Imperial Oil Co at £150. At St Arnaud 2 rood 20 perches on Navarre Road, sold to Mrs Ann Boyle at £55, At St Arnaud 8 rood in Outram st, sold to F Colcott at £34.
Horse Bolts Home: The horse attached to J Crone’s butcher’s cart and driven by W McKenzie took fright at the railway crossing on North Western Road and bolted down the road, along Napier st, turned at the E S & A Bank corner and into Crone’s lane where it halted at the back door of the butcher shop.
Hospital Sunday: The St Arnaud Band travelled to Yeungroon where they joined the Charlton Band to entertain the residents and collected £47-8-10 for the St Arnaud Hospital. The Birchip Band raised £130 at Birchip and the Donald Band raised £32 at Jeffcott.
Local Runs At Bendigo: Mr W G Pavey of the St Arnaud Post Office won his heat in fine style in the 75 yards sprint at the Bendigo St Patrick’s Day sports meeting. Because he broke twice in the semi-final he was penalized two yards in the final and was beaten by inches, conceding the winner 3½ yards.
Deaths: Myles McNeill the 3½-year-old son of Daniel and Marjorie McNeill of Winjallock died from gastro enteritis and was buried at Stuart Mill. Robert Holland died age 73 in Brisbane, leaving seven grown children. He came to Avon Plains in 1871 where his brother John still resides. Robert was a teacher firstly at Laen and then at Minyup, Gooroc [13 years], Yeungroon, Maryborough East and Monee Ponds West before moving to Queensland where two of his sons reside.
