St Arnaud Turf Club: The Turf Club Cup meeting was held at the Racecourse on 3rd July in wet and miserable weather. One hundred and fifteen horses and twenty-seven jockeys took part in eight races, which provided plenty of entertainment for the crowd.

St Arnaud Trotting Club: The Trotting Club held another successful T.A.B. meeting on 9th July at Lord Nelson Park where patrons paid in excess of $850 to witness ten first class events in perfect weather. The T.C.B. stewards had a busy day with a constant stream of drivers before them and penalties were imposed on a number of drivers.

Hairdresser Retires: After thirty years conducting a hairdressing business in St Arnaud Miss Marg Law is retiring and has leased her salon to Mrs Sue Moore. Miss Law learned her trade in Sydney and worked in several country towns in Victoria until the war broke out and she joined the AWAS. After the war she took over the hairdressing salon of Frank Duff. In 1950 she moved to London for two years, then returned to St Arnaud and purchased Jim Davey’s business, which she has ran until recently. She has had several apprentices over the years; the currant one Miss Barbara McKay will continue with Mrs Moore and Miss Law has purchased a house and will remain in St Arnaud

St Arnaud Citizens Band: Eight junior members competed against 329 entrants in the State Solo Championships held at the Christian Brothers College in East St Kilda. Those St Arnaud players who scored a place were - Linda Youngson 2nd & 3rd, Michael 1st & 2nd, Allan Greenaway 1st & 3rd, Julie Young 3rd, Peter Hamilton 2nd, Judy Hamilton 3rd and Brendan Scilini 3rd.

Golf: The St Arnaud Golf Club hosted 114 players from 22 clubs for the Victorian Sand Green Championships held over two days. They included 21 players with handicaps of less than ten. The Championship was won by 17-year-old Phillip McKinnon of the Victoria Club with 69 off the stick, followed by local players Max Grewar 70 and Bill Rodgers 71.

Wool: The 1975-76 wool selling season closed at the end of June with prices for merino fleeces 12 to 18 per cent above their opening quotes in August last year. Those clips in 21 to 24 micron groups account for nearly 60 per cent of the Australian clip.
