Still no build date for Charlton fire station: government
When the NCN Herald asked if mounting pressure from the town and other media outlets had lead to a date for the station build, the response was standard.

CHARLTON has once again been left wondering where it stands on when it will get a fire station.
Contradicting responses from the State Government has left the community still in a state of confusion after it wouldn’t even name the town in a response to questions on the subject.
When the NCN Herald asked if mounting pressure from the town and other media outlets had lead to a date for the station build, the response was standard.
“We work closely with the CFA to deliver station upgrades right across the state, based on the CFA’s priorities across district, regional and statewide needs, community risk profiles, and service delivery needs,” a spokesperson said.
“Land has been acquired for a new station and we will keep working with the CFA on the next steps.
“Operational decisions such as which stations are prioritised for upgrades are a matter for the CFA.”
The crew has been asking for a new fire station since receiving its new a new 2020 Iveco Eurocargo Tanker, replacing the 34-year-old Isuzu Tanker in 2021.
While the team was excited by the new equipment, the new tanker doesn’t fit in their Halliday Street shed.
This meant the truck would have to be housed off-site, up the road at Walsh Motors.
Frustrations boiled over back in September when Charlton CFA captain Craig Walsh told the NCN Herald he was “disappointed” in the response he had received from Emergency Minister Vicki Ward back in January 2025.
He was told Charlton “was a priority”, but actions have spoken louder than words.
“We’ve been waiting five years with zero answers,” Mr Walsh said. “It’s time to start nagging.”
